Shorebirds

In my early teens, I would spend almost every day during the Summer school break biking and taking public transit to get to birding spots. There were some years where I would spend entire back-to-back days for several weeks on end visiting the Fraser River Delta, crawling around in the mud to photograph migrating shorebirds, and seeking out the rare species hidden amongst the large flocks. In many ways, not too much has changed! Visiting the mudflats to watch and photograph shorebirds is still one of my favourite things to do. I’m fortunate to live fairly close to the Fraser River Delta important bird area, which is a stopover site for millions of migrating shorebirds each year. Photographing these birds on their annual journeys between their Arctic breeding and their wintering grounds as far as the southern end of South America is something I very much look forward to each year!
